About McInnes Cooper’s New Partners
Kiersten Amos – (Halifax) Kiersten Amos represents clients with labour and employment and pension and benefits matters. She provides strategic advice to clients on a wide range of issues including human resources matters, human rights, employment standards/labour standards, privacy, workers compensation, wrongful dismissal, mergers and acquisitions, workplace investigations, employment agreements, restrictive covenants and employment policies, labour relations, grievances, collective bargaining, pension and employee benefits. Kiersten also advises pension and benefit plans on such matters as governance, trustee obligations, regulatory requirements and obligations, and plan amendments.
Alex Barnes – (Halifax) Alex has a broad corporate/commercial practice, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and corporate governance planning. She has acted as counsel for both buyer and seller on all scales of transactions and appreciates the importance of representing her clients’ interests throughout the transaction. Alex also advises on corporate finance and venture capital matters and helps entrepreneurs and startups navigate the corporate commercial issues they face.
Phil Frenette – (Fredericton) Phil is an experienced, bilingual litigator. He has represented clients on a wide variety of legal issues, including professional liability, commercial litigation, insurance defence and coverage matters, construction disputes, commercial general liability, estate litigation, property disputes, environmental contamination, expropriation matters and various other disputes. In addition to his years of experience in private practice, Phil amassed significant experience in professional legal liability during a decade of employment as in-house defense counsel with the Law Society of New Brunswick’s insurance department, the Professional Liability Reserve Fund. Phil’s work with the Law Society defending claims that involved all aspects of legal practice has given him a unique understanding and perspective on how to advise his clients on the topic of litigation prevention and risk management, with a specific focus on discretion and the reputational considerations of confidential disputes.
Ryan McCarville – (Charlottetown) Ryan’s practice is focused on labour & employment and litigation. He regularly provides advice to employers on a wide array of labour & employment law matters including employee discipline, employee termination, employment contracts, wrongful dismissal claims, and workplace investigations. His practice also involves advising employers with respect to grievances, collective agreement interpretation, labour relations, and human rights issues.Ryan also provides advice and representation to businesses in a variety of matters, including commercial contract disputes and construction matters.
Alex Warshick – (Halifax) Alex’s practice encompasses labour and employment law and general litigation. He has appeared on behalf of clients before all levels of Court in Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Labour Board, and in arbitrations and mediations. Alex has experience preparing submissions for the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Relations Board, the Nova Scotia Labour Board, and all levels of Court in Nova Scotia.
