Halifax, Nova Scotia (April 27, 2023) – McInnes Cooper today announced a merger with LaFosse MacLeod, adding further resources, experience and talent to a firm which is already among the 25 largest law firms in Canada.
“The merger with LaFosse MacLeod is an excellent opportunity to continue building our presence in the Cape Breton market,” says McInnes Cooper Managing Partner Kevin Kiley. “After strengthening our offering in Cape Breton last year, we saw a strategic opportunity to further expand our legal and advisory services in this growing and important area of the Atlantic region.”
Following the successful merger with The Breton Law Group in September 2022, this merger expands McInnes Cooper’s reach in the local market and positions the firm as the largest provider of legal services in Northern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.
Ian Parker, Partner at LaFosse MacLeod, comments, “I’m excited about the opportunities this creates for our clients and our team. By consolidating our resources, knowledge and experience, we’re able to better serve the Cape Breton market and beyond.”
“We’re very pleased about a second merger in Cape Breton,” states Jack Graham, Chair of the Board at McInnes Cooper. “Our shared values and commitment to client service excellence ensure that our clients will truly benefit from this merger.” Graham also notes that the merger further advances the firm’s strategic goals in its five-year business plan that focuses on Business Growth, Engagement and Innovation.
LaFosse MacLeod currently has two lawyers and three staff, with a roster of clients spanning the insurance industry, public sector, service industry and not-for-profit sector.
With over 200 lawyers and more than 200 professional resources, McInnes Cooper will provide a rich pool of complementary experience for LaFosse MacLeod’s valued clients.
The merger is effective on May 29, 2023; the merged firm will continue as McInnes Cooper.
